Bionic Woman Not Canceled: Will Bionic Woman Bloggers Ever Learn?
It’s happening again.
Just two short weeks after bloggers flocked to report the unconfirmed rumor that Katee Sackhoff was leaving Bionic Woman, more bloggers are reporting the unconfirmed rumor that the show has been canceled.
And just like with the Katee rumor, some newspapers are reporting the cancellation as fact based on the unconfirmed reports on the blogs.
And just like the Katee rumor, the rumor about Bionic Woman being canceled is false.
Watching Bionic Woman has been contacted by a Bionic Woman insider who has confirmed that NBC has NOT CANCELED the show.
The show insider reports that as of this weekend, NBC executives were firm in their reassurances that the show is still alive and a viable programming option for 2008. Nothing has changed since several weeks ago, when it was accurately reported that (unless something drastic changes) the network will wait until after the writers’ strike to decide the fate of the show.
We have stated repeatedly that we will not report the show has been canceled until the news comes from a reliable source, as speculation that the show "may" be canceled is not enough for us to put down our proverbial pens and stop blogging about the show. Rumors are rumors, facts are facts, and while we may be disappointed in the show’s slow start we still believe Bionic Woman has bionic potential. This show keeps getting better with every episode, and the actors and writers are just starting to get a feel for the characters and what Jaime Sommers can do. Let’s hope they get a chance to show us how great Bionic Woman can perform when the show is in peak condition.
So until we hear it from NBC, we will keep hoping we see Bionic Woman back on our screens once the writer’s strike is over.
EDIT: After posting this I was browsing around ew.com and realized NBC has banners up advertising “Your Favorite Shows” are available on nbc.com. Among the five shows highlighted? Bionic Woman, along with Heroes, Chuck, 30 Rock, and The Office. That’s just one more hopeful sign for Jaime Sommers & Co.

Margie, I’m so happy to hear about this. According to Roco on bionic-blog.com, NBC had planned for Bionic Woman to do 13 episodes. They only did eight so far, so he says that we should probably see the remaining five episodes next year. Hopefully, whenever the strike ends, they can go back to work and work on those remaining episodes. According to how the petition is growing on the signatures to save the show, I wouldn’t be surprised if when the episodes DO air, they might be a hit and maybe the show might have a second chance. As you know, anything can happen with only five episodes. As of right now, 831 signatures have signed the petition.

Tony I love that you are so faithful about checking our blog and reporting to us what other bloggers have been saying … I hope you are just as good at reporting to them what we have been saying over here ;).
I also hope you are right about the show being a big hit when it comes back on the air. We already know that there was a big “bionic relaunch” scheduled for January before the writer’s strike started, and Ryan and I did an interview yesterday where we heard some more interesting news about this as well. I am definitely optimistic at this point.

Margie, I’m really glad that I can report to you and tell you everything that has been going on with other bloggers. By the way, there is another blogger that I forgot to tell you about. go to http://www.breakoutmedia.net and click on BIONICAST and it will tell you about this as well. It really makes me happy to know that I’m not the only one that really loves this show and to have it go on a while longer.

Hi Margie, Merry Christmas to you. It looks like that we really got a very nice Christmas present. I checked the petition to save “Bionic Woman”, and it is still growing. In fact, there are 970 signatures right now. I wouldn’t be surprised if the number went to 1000 by the end of the year.

In my opinion the new bionic woman was really bad! Reason so many people viewed the pilot was the loyality they have for the true original Lindsay Wagner’s version. The entire premise was changed! Yes i know it’s not a remake. That would have made alot more sense.Granted it’s been 30 years! It’s about time they brought back a great series that should had lasted longer! But for all of us who grew up watching the original in hopes that with all they can do in tv today,tv would be fun again.Only to be sorely disappointed! We loved the story of Jaime & Steve. The bionics, the bionic sound, the slow-motion running. I hate the bit about,”oh how cheesy the show was”. Give me a break! It was alot of fun! Cheesy is a lame attempt in destroying the real story line! Those kids who watch it in those days are in their 40’s and let me tell you they are very bright and down to earth people who are concern with the world that it is today. It’s a real mess! Tv shows are dark and boring and not at all fun. My kids are teens and younger and have watched the originals and love them. They too hate the new bionic woman. They said,”wow ,it’s really boring and if it’s not a remake then why is her name the same?”We’ve had so many tv show remakes that have left a bad taste in our mouths. Just stop if you can’t do them justice. Universal please release the originals,THE BIONIC WOMAN & THE SIX MILLION DOLLAR MAN on DVD .So we can enjoy our classic shows and not have to watch the sad ‘remakes’…..
