Michelle Ryan Inspired by Angelina Jolie’s Lara Croft

Michelle Ryan is just starting to settle into her role as an action hero, and she often mentions Angelina Jolie’s portrayal of Lara Croft as one of her inspirations for her performance on Bionic Woman:

I love ‘Tomb Raider,’” she says. “I think that Angelina Jolie is incredible and I love that movie.”

It is interesting that everyone wants to compare the Bionic Woman to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Alias, the modern classics for butt-kicking coming of age tales for young woman, but Michelle goes in a different direction. She chooses to identify with a slightly older butt-kicking woman, and one who prefers a little less talk and a lot more action. I wonder if her choices are subconsciously influenced by the scripts she has read, and that it subtly foreshadows things to come on Bionic Woman?

Fans can also hear audio of Michelle discussing her love for Angelina on the September 9 episode of the Bionic Angels radio show.

About Bionic Woman

Welcome to the best site on the web for news about Bionic Woman! Bionic Woman is a re-imagined, updated television drama inspired by the original 1970s show starring Lindsey Wagner. Helmed by the same creative team responsible for reviving Battlestar Galactica on the Sci-Fi Channel, the new Bionic Woman is darker than the 1970s original series but not quite as dark as BSG. The new show stars Michelle Ryan as the title character, Jaime Sommers, and Katee Sackhoff as her nemesis/frenemy Sarah Corvus. Each episode provides Jaime with an opportunity to further adapt to her bionic implants, and plots usually focus on her struggles to raise her teenage sister Becca while fighting techno terrorism and other types of crime. Bionic Woman airs on channels around the world, and in the United States it appears on Wednesday nights at 9:00/8:00 Central on NBC.
