Why Casting Isaiah Washington Is A Mistake

What was NBC thinking? And what were the producers of Bionic Woman thinking? Casting openly homophobic Isaiah Washington as a regular cast member? It is definitely a mistake.
Washington, I hope you recall, was fired from ABC after not once, but twice calling his Grey’s Anatomy co-star, T.R. Knight, a very offensive gay slur. Oh and he professionally outed him too. Washington then went on to say that Knight should have been fired, not him. I have never understood Washington’s thinking on that. Knight should be fired for what, exactly?!
But back to Bionic Woman. Why alienate your gay audience, an audience that could be a perfect fit for a show about a strong, kick ass women? It is just stupid, and it shows that the producers and network don’t really understand or care how harmful Washington’s repeated bigotry is to the gay and lesbian community. As an actor, Washington really doesn’t bring that much to the table, and his presence on the show will only serve as a reminder that homophobia is alive and well in America. And for that you get rewarded a key role on a new fall television show, on a major network. Sad.
