Will Bionic Woman Get a Theme Song?
Nathan raises an interesting question on the Bionic Boards: will Bionic Woman get a theme song? The pilot does not have one, the opening credits are simply spaced over the scenes of the (admittedly jam-packed) first few minutes of the episode. But will that change as the season progresses?
My personal hope is yes. A theme song can be a powerful addition to a show, adding identity in its first few episodes in the way that “Save Me” forged a bond with the early fans of Smallville or the Firefly theme became an anthem of support for fans of the Alliance. A theme song can also set the whole tone for a series, such as the way the theme from Battlestar Galactica moves from melancholy to powerful, or in the way the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Theme is as relentless as Buffy’s foes.
More importantly a theme song can make a powerful connection that forges more loyalty in viewers, staying in the minds of fans in the summer months or even years after a show goes off the air. A good theme song can bring new viewers to a show, like the theme song for Friends did in the 1990s, or bring back viewers who have drifted away, like the theme for The O.C. did in the shows later seasons. In some cases a theme song can even take on a life of its own, like the way the “Little Boxes” theme from Weeds has accumulated its own obsessive following or the Cheers theme, above, which was recently named the best TV theme song of all time.
Do you have a song in mind that would be great for Bionic Woman, one that captures your impressions of the show or you think would resonate with viewers? Or what type of music do you hope the producers will pick as the Bionic Woman theme?
